Rotorua – Hell’s Gate Geothermal Park & Mud Spa

Hell’s Gate is New Zealands most active Thermal Park and is set in 50 acres with a large variety of thermal features.

New Zealand is a country located on the Ring of Fire, where the earth is in continual turmoil. As you wander past erupting geysers, steaming fumaroles, mud pools and hot steaming thermal springs you will experience this first hand. After wandering through the valley, you will get to experience a geothermal silky smooth mud bath, followed by a relaxing spa. The therapeutic properties of the mud and the sulphuric geothermal water are again unique to this region and have been used for over 800 years by Maori due to their healing properties.

Your tour will begin from your ship, where your driver / guide will collect you. He / she will give a commentary throughout the day of all the points of interest. Your tour will begin with a drive over the Tauranga Harbour Bridge, through the streets of Tauranga City before departing to Rotorua.

En route you will pass by local farmland & native bush including the Pyes Pa Canyons which is very scenic. This route was used in days gone by as the direct route to Rotorua for those who came to bathe in the thermal waters due to the healing properties.

On arrival in Rotorua city you will have the opportunity to see a few highlights of the region before you go to Hells Gate to bathe. These include a visit to the Jade factory to learn how the Ponaumu (NZ Jade) is collected, cut and made into jewellery. From here it is just a short drive to the formal Government Gardens, where you can view the historic Rotorua Bath House and Museum, the Art Deco Blue Baths and Rachel’s Pool before we drive along the lakefront then on to your lunch stop destination.

Today we will serve you a “High Tea” for lunch. Light and moorish, just right amount before heading to your desired destination.  On arrival at  Hell’s Gate geothermal Park you will enjoy a short walk around the geothermal  site which will take approx 45mins.

Then you will get the opportunity to experience the traditional mud bath followed by the relaxing sulphur spa. This is a spa experience which truly refreshes and revitalizes the mind and body. The treatment not only cleanses your skin leaving it clean and soft to touch but also increases blood circulation.

Lower yourself into the warm, nutrient rich water and relax to the sound of the waterfall while it soothes the body. ⁠ Cover yourself with mud, and soak – then when you have had enough, quickly rinse off before imersing yourself into the wonderful warm sulphur spa and let nature soak away all your wordly worries.

When you have completed your bathing, a lovely shower is available before your drive back to your ship. You will be feeling completely relaxed as we travel yet another route to the port.

If time permits, and you feel up to it, we will stop at our local Kiwifruit orchard to see, touch & taste our local Kiwifruit & products.
